Discover Qamaq Restaurante

Located in the heart of Cusco, Peru, Qamaq Restaurante offers a delightful culinary experience for those looking to immerse themselves in the rich flavors of Peruvian cuisine. Situated at Los M-, Cipreces 15, this hidden gem combines traditional Andean ingredients with modern techniques, making it a must-visit for anyone exploring this historic city.

As you step into Qamaq Restaurante, the ambiance immediately draws you in. The warm, earthy tones of the interior reflect the rich history and culture of Cusco. The restaurant’s decor features elements that pay homage to the surrounding Incan heritage, creating a cozy yet sophisticated atmosphere. Whether you’re here for a casual lunch or a special dinner, the setting is perfect for any occasion.

The menu at Qamaq Restaurante is a true representation of Peru's culinary diversity. Drawing inspiration from both the highlands and the coastal regions, the dishes offer a perfect balance of flavors, textures, and colors. The star of the show is undoubtedly the restaurant’s signature dishes that celebrate the local ingredients of the Andes.

For starters, the Quinoa Salad with fresh vegetables and Andean cheese offers a light yet flavorful introduction to the meal. The quinoa, grown in the nearby Sacred Valley, is rich in protein and serves as the perfect base for the bright, tangy dressing. If you're craving something with a bit more depth, the Ceviche de Trucha-prepared with locally sourced trout-offers a tangy, refreshing burst of flavor that perfectly captures the essence of Peru's coastal cuisine.

Main courses at Qamaq are where the restaurant truly shines. Lomo Saltado, a classic Peruvian stir-fry, is a must-try. Tender strips of beef are sautéed with onions, tomatoes, and a splash of soy sauce, served alongside crispy fries and perfectly seasoned rice. It’s a delightful blend of flavors and textures, with every bite offering a new layer of taste. For those seeking a more adventurous dish, the Cuy Chactado is an iconic Peruvian specialty that will certainly impress. The guinea pig, cooked to crispy perfection, is served with potatoes and a traditional dipping sauce, creating a truly authentic Peruvian experience.

Vegetarians and vegans will also find a lot to love at Qamaq Restaurante. The Vegetable Pachamanca is a hearty dish that features roasted root vegetables, corn, and a blend of Andean herbs and spices, cooked in a traditional underground stone oven. It’s the perfect representation of Peru’s dedication to using fresh, local produce in every meal.

No meal at Qamaq would be complete without sampling one of their delicious desserts. The Suspiro a la Limeña, a rich and creamy dessert made with dulce de leche and meringue, is the perfect way to end your meal. Pair it with a refreshing Chicha Morada-a sweet, spiced drink made from purple corn, pineapple, and cinnamon-and you’ll have a truly unforgettable dining experience.

The service at Qamaq Restaurante is exceptional. The waitstaff is friendly and knowledgeable, always ready to recommend dishes based on your preferences or offer a bit of background on the ingredients. Their attention to detail makes the dining experience feel personalized and special, allowing guests to fully enjoy the flavors of Peru in a welcoming atmosphere.

Qamaq Restaurante is also committed to sustainability, sourcing its ingredients from local farmers and producers who prioritize environmentally friendly practices. This dedication not only ensures that the food is fresh and of the highest quality but also supports the local community and reduces the restaurant’s environmental footprint.

The location in Cusco makes Qamaq Restaurante an ideal stop for anyone visiting the city, whether you're here for a quick bite after exploring the ruins of Sacsayhuamán or for a relaxing dinner after a day of shopping at the San Pedro Market. Its proximity to Cusco's vibrant city center ensures that guests are never too far from the action, while the serene atmosphere of the restaurant provides a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of the streets.

In terms of pricing, Qamaq Restaurante offers great value for the quality of food and service provided. While it sits on the higher end of the scale, the experience, atmosphere, and quality of ingredients make it well worth the price. Whether you’re a seasoned foodie or simply looking to try something new, Qamaq offers a range of dishes that cater to every palate and preference.

From the moment you enter until the last bite, dining at Qamaq Restaurante is an experience that transports you to the heart of Peruvian cuisine. • Well this really is THE place to stay in Cusco. Forget the touristy centre and venture out to this family-run guesthouse - it's a cheap taxi ride or a 40ish minute walk from the centre but totally worth it. The rooms are very comfortable (we stayed in most of them!) and everything is super clean. A decent breakfast is included and for the price it really can't be beaten. The whole family and staff are permanently smiling and made us feel very welcome. Also, it would be a crime to miss out on the restaurant downstairs. It's fantastic! Some of the best food we had in all South America!

  • Ladey is a very kind hostess. Friendly and safe for family or independent travelers. They work a lot with students studying languages abroad. You get a room, and there's a shared bathroom with hot water nearby. Clean and convenient. There is a school next door, so expect to hear children on weekdays. But we usually leave so early for tours that it's not a problem.

  • We had a wonderful experience at QamaQ Café and Restaurant! The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made us feel right at home. The atmosphere is cozy with good natural lighting—perfect for a relaxed meal. We tried the trout with garlic and the trout ceviche, and both dishes were fresh and flavorful. You can really tell that the ingredients are healthy and home-cooked with care. The prices were also very reasonable for the quality of food and service. We left feeling happy, satisfied, and already looking forward to coming back. Highly recommend!

  • One of the best places we stayed in south America. The rooms are nicely decorated and have plenty of natural light. The family who run this guest house are incredibly nice and really make you feel welcomed. My spouse was sick for a few days while we were here and they were genuinely concerned and offered her tea. The restaurant downstairs is amazing! The chef was trained in Lima and did additional studying in Spain. The quality of the food reflects this- we stayed a few weeks and tried every main on the menu. Everything was excellent. And two days before leaving they created a new menu!
